Although some would say the tennis is not the paradigm of a masculine sport, there is no doubt the sport, in general, any kind of sport, is war, of a more or less controlled type, but a 'bloodless' substitution or training for war. In that sense, it is quite logical that it could bring out, in most of us, violent and emotional responses of anger, frustration and aggression. But, after all that is its function.
On the other hand, the article is interesting in the sense that, it portraits the typical, and mistaken, point of view insistently spread by the propaganda machine of the elites. Indeed, the promotion and defence of a, very specific and partial, kind of 'femininity' or 'effetism', that supposedly renounces violence, is submissive and 'understanding', ready to surrender at any sign of resistance, opposition or orders, has to do more with the brutal class war waged by the oligarchy against the majority of the population, than with anything else.
Effetism, is not only a reflection of the mannerisms and vices of the exploiting classes, but a device to weaken the warlike ('sporty') capabilities and, therefore, the capacity of resistance and struggle of the working populations. The hate of 'manliness' is a class hate against the virtues of the working class socialist movement (that also includes women). It is a cult of weakness, surrender and retreat, that pretends the reproduction of those sectors of the working class that were most vulnerable to exploitation in the past, that is, women and children.
