In the late 90s / early 2000s I lived in Tower Hamlets, and experienced the deliberate racial divide impoosed by the council between the dominant Bangladeshio community and the minority white community. Despite being a single mother of twins, my children were denied nursery places on the bais that they came from an English Language background. (ie white) Then they were denied reception places on the basis that firest priority was for children already in nursery. Ans after getting no places for Y1 on the same basis, we were effectively forced out of the borough just to get an education. When I attended at baby clinics with them, I was required to wait right till the end to be seen (often for 3-4 hours) because all women requiring interpretation were seen first. Inevitably there were no vaccines left for my kids at the end of the wait, or sometimes the doctor left before we got to be seen. Because we were white we ended up last in the queue for NHS treatment.
