A very shallow article that regurgitates the typical 'win-win' myths of the globalist oligarchies that created today's, unfair competition, China and is poor on analyses of the real situation in Syria and the world in general.

Neither the USA nor the West have been 'defeated' or stopped in Syria but, on the contrary, reinforced with the active military collaboration of Big Bear and Iran and the 'passive' role of China. Thus, regime change, a 'foggy' and speculative concept in most cases, was not and could not be the favoured policy of the West in Syria, as a really new regime would have been, most likely, a popular and revolutionary one and, therefore, full of potential to create a strong regional Arab power, on the lines of Iran. That would have created an, unbearable, mortal danger for Israel and the whole area, something that could not be contemplated at any stage.

It is, precisely, the West's unwillingness to intervene and effectuate regime change in Syria and its fanatic willingness to defend Israel, the premises that have created the political, diplomatic and military vacuum for Big Bear and Iran to intervene and crush the popular uprising that was on the verge of victory by attrition. The aim of the West was to debilitate Syria, not to facilitate a revolutionary government. In that sense, most Western objectives have been achieved, as the country lies in ruins, a considerable part of the population has fled, foreign troops are in control and recovery, to the same status quo ante, that is, to a relatively harmless unpopular Syria, will be long an painful. The reactionary West thanks Big Bear and Iran. The people has lost again.

Interesting article. However, there seems to be some serious flaws in the author's arguments.

1- If there is some truth about the less heroic societies in which we ALL live, the argument cuts both ways, that is, Big Bear would also face a less 'heroic' society and the relative position of both rivals will be similar. Those willing to fight will be in an overall balance.

2- Technologies also cut both ways. The technological advances can also be applied to guerrilla warfare. Indeed, guerrilla warfare has the advantage of needing a lower level of technology. For example, NATO was essentially defeated by low tech and crude IED's that provided big returns for minimal costs.

3- One of the main factors in a prospective guerrilla war in Ukraine, a country with a long tradition of guerrilla warfare, will be the impossibility of controlling the borders and, therefore, the supplies of men and material for the guerrillas. Like in Afghanistan, a safe area, out of bounds from military operation (Pakistan), will drag the conflict to unbearable lengths and costs. A bleeding wound will be enough to bring down Big Bear. The guerrillas do not need to win.

4- The political, economic and social situation and, with it, the military one, can change. Once the invasion has taken place, people could take a while to react, as in many other conflicts, but they will react if their situation changes for the worst (as it happened in Kaz), and the chances are that it will change for the worst if economic and political sanctions from the West come into force. Something that, could even trigger revolts and revolutions inside Big Bear itself.

5- Migration and flight could be the first instinct, but it all will depend on the attitude of the West and its population. If the West denies migration rights, as many regimes in the ME have done with the Palestinians and others or if it organises voluntary armies among migrants, as they did in Pakistan, the guerrillas will have an inexhaustible manpower base.

6- An aggressive stance by NATO, with economic and military resources poured into the fight, the organisation and arming of guerrillas, could turn anyone into guerrilla 'heroes'. Of course, the proof of the pudding is in the tasting... but it is a risky tasting.

The real question is not if the events in Kaz are a Maidan copycat or not, but why Maidan and similar events occurred, if they were justified and why or, put another way, why there are masses of ordinary people, normal patriots and workers, prepared to pour into the streets, protest and revolt against the given regimes, even risking their own lives. It is evident that the popular discontent against corrupt, oligarchic and brutal regimes, is the major factor in the troubles, no matter how many want to evade the real problems and accuse foreigners.

By not recognising the real situation, the deep social, economic and political problems of the 'Republics', of the people of that 'Republics' or, rather, Kingdoms and Princedoms, the whole issue descents into a grotesque farce. Indeed, if it is all the fault of foreigners and their spy agencies, then the guilt of the regimes is even worse, as they would have demonstrated a total lack of understanding, negligence of security and treasonable behaviour, as they were forced to acknowledge and do by accusing one of their peers in the highest echelons of government.

That, of course is a ridiculous proposition and face saving device by the rest of the elites, as it is IMPOSSIBLE that 20,000 or more foreign CIA agents, completely organised and with all the means as they disposal for subversion and riots, even with weapons, could have been operating in a sparsely populated country, concentrated in a few cities with a strong police and military, waiting for someone to rise prices, without anybody noticing until after they struck. It simply does not work...!!!

This tendencious article, like the woke movement to which it belongs, is not very convincing. History is full of crimes, as humans are, essentially, criminal and bloodthirsty creatures of an extremely violent disposition. The American Indians themselves, were not innocent victims or passive onlookers.

Most, if not all, 'native' populations, all warrior like, in America or elsewhere, had conquered, displaced and massacred others, joined invaders or dominated their different environments with massive force, ecological disasters and more. The only difference is that most 'native' populations constructed their 'native' status as victors and later they encounter stronger peoples.

The conquest of China, India, Siberia, Europe and may other places, was achieved through warfare, either against nature or man. To complain now about that and look for 'compensation' from those who, also, were conquered in one way or another, is absurd and unjust. The workers and citizens of the world should not pay anything to anyone but, on the contrary, should expropriate everything in the world, from 'natives', oligarchs or whoever dares to raise their guilty voice for compensation from workers.

The strategic situation does not look good for Big Bear. Thus:

  • The near abroad is in rebellion, in a kind of Eurasian Spring, that will be put down only with a constant and brutal effort of repression, censorship and virtual civil war.

  • Eastern Europe is, simply, out of reach and even with a major conflict, would be extremely difficult to re-conquer.

  • The Caucasus is, little by little, sliding out of control and, the major regions at least, into the influence of Turkey and others.

  • Belarus is shaky to say the least.

  • Ukraine, even without regions of the East, will built strength by the day, if not protected by NATO directly.

  • Central Asia is sliding towards Islam and will, sooner or later, fall for Jihad as the only option left.

  • Syria is another front with Islamist contact.

  • Siberia, with China denouncing the unequal treaties, is always a possible source of conflict and Chinese cooperation and economic integration could open the doors to a flood.

At the moment, there does not seem to be a coherent strategy anywhere, only a desire to hold on to all, at all costs and by all means, including the most naked repression.

Anti-Western rhetoric and propaganda make many commentators lose sight of the real situation. If Chinese soft intervention should, at times, be welcomed around the world, especially in the Third World, as it offers an alternative and pitches competitors against each other for better terms, nobody should be fooled about the commercial or imperial intentions of any actors.

The most important issue at stake in the Horn of Africa today, is the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) on the Blue Nile, a project in which China is, perhaps in an indirect and discrete way (not to attract the enmity of some countries), involved. With all likelihood, it is GERD the project that has unleashed the recent wars in Ethiopia (even the problems in Sudan might be related), proxy conflicts to try to stop or delay the functioning of the dam and its fundamental, life threatening, impact on Sudan and Egypt.

Chinese soft intervention is not devoid of risks and is not always well received by the population of the countries involved, as Chinese companies and migrants have very different cultures, aims and aspirations that do not integrate well. As pointed out in the article, it is clear that China, correctly, seeks to bypass, isolate or control its main rival, India, by reviving its long history of relations with East Africa and expanding in the Indian Ocean. However, its strategy in Africa is antagonising Egypt and, with it, its allies in the Arab World. A destabilised Egypt will risk conflict with Israel and the wider zone, something America, logically, would try to prevent.
